The nature converted into merchandise, exchange value explored by real estate agents, represents a new form of urban segregation, because when legalized it translates into happiness and quality of life and when illegal, it becomes an alternative place to live (or survive). This article, originated from a literature review, presents and discusses nature as a commodity exploited by the real estate market, showing its appropriation in strategic commercial discourses. The text is structured in a brief debate about the living spaces of low and high income portions, making considerations about legalization, formality and informality in the production of urban space. Finally, it debates the role of Geography in this scenario and contributions to elucidate notions about the entities linked to the environmental issue that permeates the production of urban space.
