History

Founded in 2010, BGJ began as the journal of the Geography graduate program, which was part of UFU’s Pontal School of Integrated Sciences (FACIP) at the time. After more than a year of discussions and work by the program’s faculty, the first issue was published, marking a milestone in the history of UFU’s Pontal Campus as the first periodical launched among its programs.

Following the establishment of the Pontal Graduate Program in Geography (PPGEP) in 2014, BGJ took on the responsibility of promoting and disseminating the Program's research-based knowledge and fostering academic exchange by publishing articles by researchers from other national and international institutions.

Objective

The purpose of this publication is to share scholarly articles in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, and geosciences that contribute to discussions about nature, society, and their relationship with each other. Thus, its scope includes articles on geography, geology, hydrology, anthropology, sociology, history, paleontology, urban planning, and related subjects.

Frequency

From its founding in 2010 through 2025, the BGJ published regular issues biannually, in addition to special issues.

Since 2026, the journal has published articles on a rolling basis and organized them into annual issues.

Financial support
