This article seeks to know and analyze the perceptions and representations of young students about Juiz de Fora (MG). Perception is placed as the first form of knowledge of the world, which is guided by experiences in lived spaces. Thus, through urban experiences, young people build their perceptions and knowledge about the city. For the article, the methodology was done through a case study with students of the 2nd year of high school, from Escola Estadual Almirante Barroso, using mental maps as a form of representation. In this way, it was possible to verify that the perceptions about the city are linked to spaces close to the school, places that students experience and experience daily.
