DIAGNÓSTICO DE CRIMES AMBIENTAIS:
um estudo de caso em escala municipal no Brasil

The impacts on the environment reflect the mode of exploration that has been used by human beings since ancient times. The production relationship that encompasses the natural, productive and economic systems implies the use of natural resources for the production and circulation of goods, resulting in environmental degradation. Several mechanisms, aimed at curbing behaviors that are harmful to the environment, have been improved, including the promotion of specific protective norms, including criminal law (a specific branch of law). The main objective of this research was to investigate the most frequent environmental crimes in the city of Ituiutaba-MG, considering the time frame from 2008 to 2019, based on the provisions of the Environmental Crimes Law (Law nº.9.605 of 1998). The methodology was based on bibliographic and documentary research, with a quantitative and qualitative approach, based on the analysis of data from the Social Defense Event Registration System (REDS), made available by the Civil Police of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The survey results allowed to identify that the most frequent environmental crimes in the city were: a) illegal trade in eggs, larvae or specimens; b) establishment of polluting works or services and; c) destruction or damage to a permanent preservation forest.
