A “Epopeia Gilgamesh” é uma epopeia?

Uma vez que o poema de Gilgámesh existiu em seu próprio mundo, tanto quanto no nosso, este artigo discute e pertinência de aplicar-lhe o rótulo de épico. Do ponto de vista moderno, essa classificação depende da aproximação com a épica grega arcaica e responde à necessidade de situar o texto num conjunto de gêneros conhecidos, orientando sua recepção. Da perspectiva babilônica antiga, o rótulo épico parece inadequado e proponho que se entenda o poema como a contraparte literária de um narû, do que se chama “autobiografia em terceira pessoa”.
