Theater space, city, and politics: possible dialogues

To attest the possibility of a dialogue between theatre, city, and politics, this article looks at three events of diverse nature, at different moments in Brazilian history: the adaptatio, during the military dictatorship,of Brecht´s In the jungle of cities (1969), by Zé Celso,head of the Oficina Group, focusing the city of São Paulo; the plays The gunshot that changed history and Tiradentes(1992), directed by Aderbal Freire-Filho,that highlight Rio de Janeiro´s historical and listed spaces; and the play BR3, a true socio-political manifesto staged in São Paulo by the VertigemTheater Group (2006), and directed by AntônioAraújo. In this analysis, the city is presented either as a representation, as a support for the scene or as the dramaturgy itself, based on concepts formulated by Patrice Pavis, Christine Boyer and Marc Augé.
