In the middle of the senses of gender, race and sexuality

the discursive construction of gay black masculinity in Madame Satã (2002)

Abstract

In this article, we seek to understand the intersection of senses of gender, race and sexuality and its discursive functioning in the process of forging black gay masculinity in the cinematographic work Madame Satã (2002). To do this, we support ourselves, as theoretical-analytical support, in the Discourse Analysis of materialistic affiliation, taking as premise the ideas of Michel Pêcheux ([1975] 2014) and Eni Orlandi (2020), in the theories of gender and sexuality, from the considerations of Anderson Lins (2021), Judith Butler (2020) and Michel Foucault ([1976] 2014) and in the reflections of Frantz Fanon (2008) and Rogério Modesto (2018, 2021) on racialized discourses, attentive to the intersectional character of research objects. To develop this research, we analyze that black gay masculinity is forged by the subversion of the hegemonic senses of gender and sexuality aligned with those of race. Through the materialization of the meanings of gender and sexuality in non-conformity with the expectations of the biologizing conception of body-gender, in a white-centric social formation, in the black and gay man-subjectivities, the cries of self-affirmation and self-determination that constitutes this subject arose.
