Agricultural practice conducted in urban areas (intra-urban) and in the surrounding areas (peri-urban) can be defined as urban agriculture. When well-planned, issues caused by population growth in cities can be addressed, and urban spaces can become more sustainable through this form of agriculture. This study explores the importance of urban agriculture for realizing the right to a sustainable city, as defined in the City Statute. We rely on state legislation, which establishes regulatory guidelines for this topic, since there is no federal regulation for urban agriculture. The hypothesis that urban agriculture, when properly regulated, can help realize the right to a sustainable city was tested using the inductive method. It was found that the analyzed norms share common objectives that can contribute to the consolidation of federal regulations and the realization of the right to a sustainable city.
