Abstract: Urban agriculture can be defined and meant from different approaches and research initiatives. The term is associated with the development of agrarian practices within urban (intraurban) and surrounding aerial areas (periurban). This type of agriculture, when well structured and planned, can reduce the problems caused by population swelling in urban spaces, besides being an effective technique to transform societies into more sustainable spaces. Thus, the present study takes advantage of the broad meaning surrounding urban agriculture, in order to dialogue with the realization of the right to sustainable city, positive in art. 2 of the City Statute. As there is no federal regulation for urban agriculture, the study benefits from the content of state laws, which establish regulatory guidelines for the issue and that form the object of this work. The research problem materializes in the form of the question: what are the contributions of state legislation in southeastern Brazil to the formation of the debate and hermeneutic content of the future federal standard on urban agriculture and the realization of the right to sustainable city? It was found that the standards analyzed have common objectives that can contribute to the consolidation of the federal norm and the realization of the right to sustainable city.
