Twenty Years of Economic Policy and Income Distribution in Brazil

Since 2000’s Workers Party election, several empirical papers have been published to evaluate the economic policy and salary policy impact on income distribution, including personal, functional dimension. National accounts series available data from 2000 to 2020, and this period will be object of this study. Therefore, it is proposed an analytical approach which aims to analyze each specific government taking on consideration the Partisan Theory hypothesis, which states that left parties governments are favorable to income distribution. From the time series and tendency lines the approach seeks to check the impact of policies on economic activity, labor market and its relationship with income distribution. As predicted, from the governments evaluated in the period, Lula 1, Lula 2 and Dilma 1 have been characterized as governments favorable to distribution, while the others, no.
