Veblen is known in literature as the first institutionalist exponent of the heterodox class. However, much of his writing on human nature is neglected by contemporary institutional approaches. For the author, the existing propensities in the minds of economic agents are essential to explain the objectives of the institutions. The importance of instincts is evidenced in most of his works. Even some economists believe that this component was even more prominent than the institutions themselves. That said, it is considered of great relevance the deepening of studies on the theory of instincts and its effect on Veblen’s institutional analysis.
