The investigation of economic growth and income convergence has been the subject of constant reflection. Recently, part of the specialized literature has incorporated the concept of economic complexity as a possible determinant of growth. Therefore, the present work investigates the contribution of the economic complexity index (ECI) to convergence and growth, given a sample of American and Asian countries. The results suggest that the complexity is able to affect positively in both cases. Given the evidence, it is possible to affirm that the effect of economic complexity, although direct, decreases in magnitude as this indicator rises.
