A CONTRIBUTION OF CINEMA IN CLASSES OF GEOGRAPHY: AN EXPERIENCE WITH THE EXTENSION PROJECT OF URBAN CINEMA

Abstract

The main point of this paper is the contribution of cinema in classes of Geography, specifically, of Urban Geography. An analysis of the urban phenomenon is made, using a critical approach to the space production process. The experience of an urban-cine extension project is shown, additionally. Workshop classes about cinema, following debates leaded by an invited teacher are conducted, taking into account topics on urban questions. The paper Seeks to show that the film is a resource that can aid in the production of critical knowledge, in which the student identifies himself as the subject of the urban space production process, based on his own reality. Finally, the project of urban cinema extension is presented, whose objective is to promote the debate around the urban question, besides proposing the dynamization and enrichment of the geography classes, whose contents are related to the urban and the city. This activity is carried out in an integrated way to the activities of Geourbano, a reading group dedicated to understanding the urban space produced under the aegis of the capitalist production model. The experience with Cine Urbano allows us to affirm that cinema can help the teacher in his classes to construct with his students a critical interpretation of the urban in the contemporary world.
