Author Guidelines

Texts must be in accordance to the New Spelling Agreement for the Portuguese language and to the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), they also must comply with the following configuration: typing compatible with Word, A4 page layout, 1.5 spacing, Times New Roman font, size 12, margins 2.5cm.

Texts must be titled in Portuguese and English/Spanish, they must contain resumo, abstract/resumen (100 to 200 words), palavras-chave and keywords/palabras clave (up to five), text body and references.

Authors' and co-authors' names must not appear in the text, in order to guarantee anonymity in the assessment process. The presentation order of authors, limited to five, must be based on the involvement degree of each one in the production of the text, extension project, coordinator's or participants' names, who did not actually take part in the writing of the text, must not be included.

Quotations must be written in the text body. Example: (Author, year, page).

Quotations with more than three lines must be single-spaced, in size 11 and indented by 4cm. 

All cited authors must appear in the References at the end of the text, and they must appear according to updated standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT), as stated by the following examples: 

a) for books: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name. Title in Bold. Edition. Place of publication: Publishing House, Year. number of pages (optional).

b) for collections: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name (of the referenced piece's author). Chapter Title. In: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name (org.). Title in Bold. Edition. Place of Publication: Publishing House, Year. Start page-end page of the referenced part.

c) for journal articles: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name. Article Title. Journal Title in Bold, Place of Publication, Volume (v.), journal issue (n.), number of pages in the article, month (shortened) and year of publication. Available at: link. Accessed on: day month (shortened) year. 

d) for capstone projects/theses/dissertations: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name. Title capstone project/thesis/dissertation in bold. Year of defense. Number of sheets (optional). Capstone Project (Undergraduate in...) or Dissertation (Masters in...) or Thesis (Doctorate in...) – Institution where the defense occurred (Faculty, University), place, year. Available at: link. Accessed on: day month (shortened) year.

e) for papers presented at a conference: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name. Paper Title. In: CONFERENCE TITLE, 3. (edition), year, place. Proceedings [...]. Place: Institution, year. Available at: link. Accessed on: day month (shortened) year.

f) for texts found on websites: SURNAME, Abbreviated Name. Title in Bold. Available at: link. Accessed on: day month (shortened) year.

Illustration: must be cited in the text and put as close to the passage to which it refers as possible, and its identification must appear at the top, preceded by a designation word (drawing, diagram, flowchart, graph, map, organization chart, plan, table, portrait, figure, image etc.), followed by its order number as it appears in the text. Consecutive to the illustration, at the bottom, indicate the source used (a mandatory element, even if it is the author's own production), caption, notes, and other information necessary for understanding (if any). 

Tables: up to three (do not separate your data with vertical and horizontal lines). Illustrations: up to three, scanned with bmp, jpg or tif (illustrations that have already been published must be attached to the author's authorization). Photos: up to five, in black and white or color, well contrasted (copyright of the photos is the sole responsibility of the author).

Papers resulting from research with humans must mention the authorization for disclosure of those involved or the Informed Consent Form (ICF) or approval by the Ethics Committee of the institution in which the project was carried out.

The journal uses tools designed for plagiarism detection in any of its forms.

The journal does not charge an administrative fee for its editorial process.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Original Articles

Original articles that present new contributions to knowledge and that are related to actions in the extension field will be accepted. Papers’ abstracts with partial and/or final results of these actions will also be accepted.

They must contain: Title (in Portuguese and English); Resumo (100 to 200 words, with precise information on the purpose of the study, the methodology used, the results and the conclusion), Abstract, Palavras-chave, Keywords (up to five); Introduction; Methodology; Results and Discussion; Final considerations; Acknowledgements (optional) and References (only those cited in the text and in accordance with the updated ABNT standards). Papers must not exceed twenty pages, including annexes.

Special Article

Papers submitted to editing dedicated to specific themes inside the programmatic lines of extension.

Experience Reports

Texts that present relevant experiences to the improvement of practices in extension, that express motivations or methodologies to the taken actions on the situation and the considerations/impressions that the experience brought to the person who lived it will be accepted.

Texts must contain: Title (in Portuguese and English); Resumo (100 to 200 words, with precise information on the purpose of the study, the methodology used, the results and the conclusion), Abstract; Palavras-chave, keywords (up to five); Text and References (in accordance with the updated ABNT standards). Papers must not exceed fifteen pages, including annexes.

Research Communications

Non-original articles that demonstrate the experience of a group or a service, involving extension actions in teaching, in research and in the professional practice will be accepted. They must contain: Title (in Portuguese and English); Resumo (100 to 200 words, with precise information on the purpose of the study, the methodology used, the results and the conclusion), Abstract; Palavras-chave, Keywords (up to five); Introduction; Content; Acknowledgements (optional); and References (only those cited on the text and in accordance with the updated ABNT standards). Papers must not exceed fifteen pages, including annexes.

Reviews

Unpublished texts that contain critical reviews on published works, which may contribute to reflecting about university extension will be accepted for publication. They must contain title (different from that of the reviewed work), in Portuguese and in English or Spanish. After the title, authors must indicate bibliographic data for the reviewed work. Papers must not exceed five pages.

Dossiers

A collection of texts that present discussions pertinent to themes connected with university extension. Texts must contain: Title (in Portuguese and English or Spanish); Resumo and Abstract (100 to 200 words, with precise information on the purpose of the study, the methodology used, the results and the conclusion); Palavras-chave and Keywords (up to five); Text and References (in accordance with the updated ABNT standards).
