Abstract

The extension project “Literary reading practice: learning from poetry” was created with the aim of promoting an incentive to read poetry through the simple act of appreciating aesthetic enjoyment. The practice of literary reading, especially poems, has been disregarded by today's society. Young people have given preference to social networks, which deliver shallow, simplistic and short-lived content, but which have a great power to capture attention. In this way, the skills acquired through the habit of reading, such as attention, critical thinking and creativity, have been lost. Therefore, the project developed from this analysis of society and, in order to expand cultural repertoires and exercise the habit of reading, in each meeting developed, the importance of the authors for the Brazilian cultural collection was emphasized, reflecting on his life trajectory and his written works. From this, the public had space to express/to talk the ideas and reflections that came to their mind while reading the works and, thus, a safe and creative environment was created for the exchange of ideas and experiences. We had few supporters, but we will seek to find better solutions for future projects.
