Abstract

The environmental issue has occupied privileged places in the agendas of the most varied scientific debates in the academic universe since the second half of the twentieth century. There are several environmental impacts occurred in different countries of the world, resulting from anthropic action. Thus, we seek to understand in this article, the causes and consequences of environmental impacts manifested in the city of Imperatriz, State fo Maranhão, Brazil, especially those generated through solid waste that must be urgently evaluate. The objective in this study was to investigate the conception of children in relation to the production of solid waste generated in their homes. The study was conducted in three municipal schools of early childhood education in the city. The methodological procedures were based on the adoption of questionnaires that were directed, to diagnose the perception the students about the problem of urban solid waste. The results show the need to broaden the debates on Environmental Education and the importance of debating with children, themes about solid residues and environmental sustainability. The execution of this work required the adoption of an interdisciplinary team involving professionals from environmental sciences and geography.
