Innovations in penal law classes by the use of strategies of teaching

Abstract

This text appeared in the development of a Course of Basic Notions in Law, at the University of International Integration of Afro-Brazilian Lusophony (UNILAB), Campus dos Malês in São Francisco do Conde, State of Bahia, Brazil. It aims to verify the human potential to integrate innovative dynamics using some types of criminal law classes. It is a qualitative research combined with a case study on the real and social situation on which experts and laymen give their opinion. Judicial decisions and Brazilian legislation were also accessed. The public was composed by undergraduate students, who came from Americas, in this case, Brazilians, and African countries, in this case Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique. During the meetings, two teaching strategies were performed: Group of Verbalization versus Group of Observation (GVGO) and Role-Play. The students of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) participated actively with much interest in the discussion. However, they had difficulty in arguing in favor or against the criminalization of home schooling, which in 2018, in Brazil, has been the subject of an agenda in the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
