Development and implementation of SIGEX

a management system for extension actions

Abstract

This article describes the research, development, and implementation of an information system to support extension management at the Federal University of Vale do São Francisco (Univasf). The Management System for Extension Actions (SIGEX) was developed to improve the processes of submission, evaluation, and organization of extension activities, in addition to automating the generation of sectoral reports and extension indicators. At Univasf, the Dean of Extension (PROEX) is responsible for institutionalizing programs, projects, events, courses, and other actions, however, the records flow is artisanal, resulting in slow work and loss of important data. In general, it is an interdisciplinary study, of an applied nature. As for the objectives, it is defined as exploratory and descriptive research, with a mixed approach. The method used was Design Science Research (DSR), a specific methodology for research that aims to create a technological artifact to solve concrete problems. It can be observed, through the results of the SIGEX evaluation, that the system is useful, intuitive, and easy to use. Thus, the software seeks to provide speed in the registration and evaluation protocols of actions and ease in issuing extension management reports.
