Abstract

This research program investigates the methodology for the generation of dimensionless abacuses for the design of circular section columns made with conventional and high strength concrete. The use of dimensionless abacus is one of the alternatives for the design of reinforced concrete columns, however, in the current literature, there is a shortage of these abacuses for the columns with circular sections. The paper presents two abacus generation methodologies based on the ABNT NBR 6118: 2014 standard, the first of which uses an integration process to find concrete stresses. The second, in turn, performs a discretization in the cross-section in order to find these efforts. With the help of the Microsoft Excel Program, a spreadsheet is generated to allow the creation of this tool and some examples are solved to exemplify its use and efficiency.
