From the memory of her own childhood in Trás-os-Montes, Luso-French director and screenwriter Cristèle Alves Meira produces a debut feature film full of popular beliefs, between sacred and profane, crossed by the spirit of other times. Alma Viva (2022) alludes to the prolonged funeral of the matriarch of one of these magical-religious families, in a village in the Portuguese mountains, whose affinity with her granddaughter turns into a demonic inheritance. The objective of this article is to show how, in the disastrous attempt of adults to deal with grief, some events involving Salomé seem to exceed natural laws.
