Abstract

Translating/interpreting a song from Portuguese into Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) is a complex task, because these languages involve different modalities – the former is an oral/auditive language, and the latter is a visual-spatial language. Metaphor is part of the human nature in terms of thought and language, and each person interprets it individually. Thus, each sign language translator/interpreter makes the choices they consider appropriate based on their personal interpretation, their lexical knowledge of Portuguese and Libras, and their sociocultural and ideological knowledge. This exploratory, documental research aims to identify the lexical choices adopted by a Libras Translator/Interpreter to represent the possible metaphors in the song “Teto de vidro” composed and sung by Brazilian artist Pitty. It also aims to observe the image description used by the professional to represent the sound of the instruments that make up the musical arrangement.

Eni, Federal University of Uberlândia

I am a master's student at PPGEL / ILEEL at the Federal University of Uberlândia - UFU. I have a degree in Letters - Portuguese Language with Domain of Libras (UFU); Letters - Portuguese, French, Literature (UFU) and Post-Graduation in Special Education (UFU). I am currently a professor of Portuguese / Literature at the State Center for Continuing Education in Uberlândia (CESEC) and Interpreter of Libras (Brazilian Sign Language) by the Municipality of Uberlândia. I have already worked as a Resource Room teacher in state schools in Uberlândia and as a distance Tutor in courses offered by the Federal University of Uberlândia. My research interests include: "Teaching the Portuguese Language to Deaf People", "Translation and Interpretation - Portuguese Language X Brazilian Sign Language".

Andrelina , Federal University of Uberlândia

Student of the Postgraduate Program in Linguistic Studies - PPGEL (master's degree) at the Federal University of Uberlândia-UFU. Formation in Literature - Portuguese Language with mastery of Libras by UFU. Currently a Libras Translator / Interpreter in the Municipal and State schools. In previous years, professor of the technical course of Libras translator / interpreter in the state network and teacher of Portuguese language in the municipal school system.
