Abstract

This article deals with the question of labor emancipation and new forms of migration in Brazil in the first half of the 21st century. We offer our modest contribution to an understanding of the relationship between labor emancipation and international migration. While the whole of the second half of the 20th century was marked by the emigration of Brazilians to countries in Europe and the USA, today Brazil sees itself as a host country for foreign immigrants. This new situation could well be explained by the emancipation of labor, since in countries where the capitalist model of accumulation is at work, the need for emancipation is real. However, based on the history of Brazilian workers' struggles, we conclude that the new forms of migration are rather linked to the consequences of the misdeeds of the neoliberal system.
