The presence of super condominiums in environmental conservation areas and their impacts in Barra da Tijuca - RJ
Abstract
The present study aimed to identify the urbanization processes and implementation of so-called "super condominiums" as modifying agents of the landscape and determinants of ecosystem degradation in the Barra da Tijuca neighborhood (RJ). The methodology used consisted of a historical survey of the region and the elaboration of maps in order to understand the geographical layout of the super condominiums and local ecosystems. The results obtained show that several developments are located within conservation units and/or their buffer zones, generating various impacts. It was also observed that the urbanization process of the neighborhood did not follow the environmental conservation principles outlined in the pilot plan, as economic interests took precedence over concern for the environment.
