The conflicts caused by the production and expansion of urban centers result in changes in land use and occupation, intensifying negative impacts, especially in areas of socio-environmental vulnerability. This article aims to socio-environmentally diagnose the river marginal areas of the Pinguim river drainage basin up to its confluence with the Moscados stream. The methodology consisted of: (1) survey and systematization of spatial data in the delimited basin; (2) elaboration of cartographic products; (3) on-site visits to characterize the areas and collect raw water; (4) laboratory tests to determine parameters; (4) analysis and diagnosis of river marginal areas. The results demonstrate a reality that differs from what envisages environmental legislation, especially with regard to the quality of riparian vegetation and stream water. This study points to the urgency of promoting effective and continuous actions in order to mitigate the problems detected.
