URBAN MORPHOLOGY AND CITY STRUCTURE IN ITUIUTABA-MG: ANALYSIS OF TRANSFORMATIONS IN THE PERIOD 2000-2018

Abstract

The city of Ituiutaba has undergone important transformations within its territorial configurations, especially regarding the dispersion and conformation of territorial discontinuities over the last two decades. These modifications are linked to a set of factors, among them the actions of the government in the context of the Minha Casa Minha Vida Program (PMCMV) and the production of housing estates. For this analysis, we chose the perspective of urban morphology, understood here beyond the urban form, because it also contemplates the different aspects that are part of the production process of urban space. Thus, this study contemplated the analysis of the territorial configurations of the city and also its contents from some census variables. This study allowed, on the one hand, to demonstrate the basic characteristics of the transformations in urban territorial configurations over the last years in Ituiutaba, as well as to demonstrate the potentiality of the analysis of urban morphology for urban studies
