Abstract

The flora of the brazilian savana has a wide biodiversity of bioactive compounds with medicinal potential, however, little is known about these compounds in naturally occurring species. Considering the constant threats to biodiversity that this biome has been suffering from the expansion of agricultural areas, actions are necessary to encourage its appreciation and use of species in a sustainable way. In this study, the objective was to carry out a survey of species with antioxidant potential belonging to the Asteraceae botany family occurring in brazilian savana, in the Pontal do Triângulo Mineiro region, MG. The location of the species was carried out through expeditions and random walks in brazilian savana in the Ituiutaba region, Minas Gerais. After identifying the selected species, samples of the aerial part were collected and dried in a forced air circulation oven at 35°C to obtain dry mass for phytochemical analysis. The method used to determine antioxidant activity was by capturing the DPPH radical, total phenolic compounds were determined by the Folin-Ciocalteau reagent, and the flavonoid content was quantified by a colorimetric method. Eight species belonging to the Astearaceae family were located and identified. Through the analysis of phytochemical results, the presence of phenolics and flavonoids was verified significantly in all species, in addition, all of them presented antioxidant action.
