Abstract

Know the territory and the reality of populations that are in conditions of social vulnerability can help in establishing public policies and health promotion programs. The purpose of this article is to introduce the territory as a fundamental instrument for such promotion strategies. The methodology consisted of bibliographical research in articles, books, dissertations, theses, texts available in digital databases with free access on the internet, among other places. As a result, it turns out that, on the one hand, for the construction of healthy territories, healthy public policies are required, which is not an exclusive task of the health sector, but from all sectors of governance, on the other hand, beyond of intersectorial actions, the participation of civil society is required, of individual subjects, social groups and institutions. It is necessary to include as a daily task thinking and doing health promotion, permanently redesigning a health project in the territory, in which the hygienist/sanitary model does not prevail.
