Types of Documents Accepted

The Bioscience Journal accepts submissions exclusively in the field of Dentistry. The accepted types of manuscripts are:

  • Original Research Articles: Including clinical, laboratory, cohort, case-control, ecological, and cross-sectional studies.
  • Systematic Reviews: With or without meta-analysis. Must provide a PROSPERO registration number.
  • Scoping Reviews: Must provide an OSF (Open Science Framework) registration number. Note: The journal does NOT accept case reports, narrative reviews, integrative reviews, short communications, letters to the editor, or opinion articles.

Language Policy

The journal exclusively accepts contributions in English. This applies to the main text and all supplementary documents. Manuscripts accepted provisionally must submit a Language Revision Certificate issued by a specialized company or professional before final acceptance. Authors are responsible for all revision costs. Ensure the correct and respectful use of terms related to sex, gender, race, and ethnicity.

Authorship Policy and Responsibility

The journal strictly follows the ICMJE criteria for authorship. All authors must have substantially contributed to the conception, data acquisition/analysis, drafting, and final approval of the manuscript.

  • ORCID: It is mandatory for all authors to link an updated ORCID iD (including academic background and current affiliation) to the submission system.
  • CRediT Taxonomy: Authors must declare their specific individual contributions using the CRediT (Contributor Role Taxonomy). If CRediT terms are not used, a justification must be provided.
  • Changes in Authorship: Disputes or changes in authorship (addition or removal) are not allowed after submission. Only changes in author order are permitted before publication. Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria should be listed in the Acknowledgments section.

Fees (Article Processing Charge)

The journal does not charge submission or evaluation fees. An Article Processing Charge (APC) is applied only after final acceptance.

  • National authors (residents in Brazil): R$ 80.00 per formatted page.
  • Foreign authors (residents outside Brazil): USD 50.00 per formatted page. Payment details will be sent after the final proof is approved. The journal does not currently have a fee waiver policy.

Manuscript Preparation and Article Submission Format

All documents must be typed in Microsoft Word (.docx), justified, using Calibri font, size 12, with single line spacing and 2.54 cm margins. Authors must prepare the following separate files for submission:

  1. Cover Letter (Cover-letter.docx): Addressed to the Editor-in-Chief, detailing the manuscript's relevance, adherence to the journal's scope, and confirming its originality.
  2. Title Page (title-page.docx): Must be submitted separately to ensure double-blind review. It must contain:
  • Title: Clear and concise, limited to 35 words, indicating the study design.
  • Authors' Information: Full names, complete ORCID URLs, and full institutional affiliations (without acronyms).
  • Corresponding Author: Name and email address.
  • Declarations: Authors' Contributions (CRediT), Acknowledgments, Ethics Approval, Conflicts of Interest, Informed Consent, Clinical Trial Registration, Funding, Data Availability, and AI Use Statement.
  1. Main Document for Evaluation (manuscript-for-evaluation.docx): Must not contain author identification. It should include:
  • Title (up to 35 words).
  • Abstract: Structured abstract with a maximum of 250 words (Objectives, Methods, Results, Conclusions). No references or commercial credits.
  • Keywords: Three to six MeSH or DeCS terms, in alphabetical order.
  • Main Text Structure: Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions (IMRAD). Results and Discussion must be presented in separate sections.
  • Formatting: Avoid abbreviations; define them upon first use. Do not use bold font in the main body. Supplier credits should be indicated in parentheses (Company name, City, Country).

Tables and Figures

  • Tables: Must be submitted as separate editable Word files (Table 1, etc.). Do not use images for tables. Use Calibri size 12.
  • Figures: Submit as separate files (Figure 1, etc.) in TIFF or JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi and a maximum width of 16 cm. Previously published figures are not accepted. The use of color in figures and tables is not accepted; use shapes or textures instead.

In-Text Citations and References

The journal adopts the adapted ISO 690:2010(E) style (author-date).

  • Limits: There is no maximum number of references, but at least 70% must have been published in the last five years. The journal does not accept references from theses, dissertations, monographs, books, book chapters, or abstracts published only in conference proceedings.
  • In-Text Citations: E.g., (Santos and Cunha 2015) for two authors; (Silva et al. 2012) for three or more authors.
  • Reference List: Alphabetical order by the first author's surname (uppercase). For up to three authors, list all. For four or more, list the first author followed by "et al.".
  • DOI: Inclusion of the DOI at the end of each reference is mandatory.

Submitting the Manuscript

Submissions must be made exclusively through the Online System. The corresponding author must attach all required documents, including:

  • Cover Letter and Title Page.
  • Main Document, Tables, and Figures.
  • Reporting Guidelines Checklist: Completed PDF checklist (e.g., CONSORT, PRISMA, STROBE).
  • Ethics Certificate/Informed Consent (if applicable).
  • Publishing Agreement and License Term: Signed individually by each author.
  • Language Revision Certificate and Publication Fee Receipt are required in later stages.
