About the Journal
Brief background
The Bioscience Journal originated in 1985 with the publication of the Revista do Centro de Ciências Biomédicas (ISSN 0102-5996) by the Universidade Federal de Uberlândia (UFU). In 1998, the Bioscience Journal (ISSN 1516-3725) was created, marking the adoption of a new editorial model. In 2007, the printed edition was discontinued, becoming exclusively online (ISSN 1981-3163) and adopting the Open Journal System (OJS). In 2021, the journal shifted to an article-based continuous publication model. Recent milestones include a comprehensive revision of Editorial Policies in 2025 to align with international best practices (ICMJE and COPE), and in September 2026, the initiation of a scope transition toward Dentistry, becoming fully exclusive to this field starting in 2027.
Open Access
The Bioscience Journal is an Open Access journal, meaning all its content is available free of charge, with no costs to users or their institutions. Users may read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of the articles, or use them for any other legal purpose. This aligns with the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI). Works are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Open Science Compliance
The journal is committed to transparency in research. Authors are required to provide a Data Availability statement during submission, indicating how anonymized data will be shared. Unlike some open science models, the Bioscience Journal does not evaluate or accept manuscripts previously deposited in preprint servers.
Focus and Scope
The Bioscience Journal aims to publish and disseminate basic, applied, and clinical research exclusively in the field of Dentistry. The journal accepts submissions of Original Research Articles, Systematic Reviews, and Scoping Reviews. Submissions of case reports, narrative reviews, and integrative literature reviews are not accepted. All submissions must be original and exclusive to the Bioscience Journal.
