Benjamin Constant, vida e história: reflexões sobre o fazer biográfico

Resumo

Este artigo trata da minha experiência como biógrafo de Benjamin Constant (1837-1891), sintetizando e desenvolvendo algumas comunicações sobre o tema que apresentei em eventos científicos. O meu relacionamento, como autor, com esse personagem ressaltou problemas que a história enfrenta para explicar questões em que as dimensões individual e coletiva dos processos sociais se articulam. Também evidenciou que o historiador precisa fazer opções que o livrem da ilusão de recuperar uma vida passada, mas, também, não diluam o conhecimento sobre ela na subjetividade do biógrafo. ABSTRACT: This article discusses my experience as a biographer of Benjamin Constant (1837-1891), synthesizing and developing some communications on the subject that I've presented at scientific meetings. My relationship, as the author, with this personage pointed out problems that the History faces to explain issues linked to the individual and collective dimensions of social processes. Also, it has shown that the historian must make choices that set him free from the illusion of recovering a past life, but, also, don't dilute the knowledge about it in the subjectivity of biographer.
