Abstract

Benjamim Santos’ artistic trajectory in Brazilian theater is the guiding principle to understand a set of historical situations marked by tensions and conflicts, in the midst of which were used a number of aesthetic devices stemming from the social experience that integrates culture and memory in the second half of the 20th century. The article aims at giving visibility to cultural production stemming from Brazilian stages based on the creation of a particular theatrical language that denounces the excesses of the Brazilian military dictatorship and describes its implications for esthetic forms of social action, Benjamin Santos’s activism and his participation in the main cultural and political movements of this period
