Abstract

This paper discusses Beto Brant’s 2010 film, O amor segundo B. Schianberg. The movie is a result of the intersection of a wide range of spin-off products that include a book adaptation, a television miniseries with reality show structure and videoart production. It was analyzed based on its insertion in the consolidation process of melodramatic narrative forms developed since the 19th century. The film is perceived as being associated with immediate time, of which Koselleck and Hartog speak. This paper inquires into its relations with public and private spaces, and tensions of gender discourses. Furthermore, in order to understand it, it is imperative to consider the precarious situation of citizenship in our society, marked by inequality and by disputes also involving the media network.

Keywords: media culture; narratives; citizenship.
