A figura caricatural do gorila nos discursos da esquerda

Abstract

O texto analisa as origens e usos da figura caricatural do gorila no contexto da crise política que levou ao golpe de 1964, marcado por radicalização e mobilização intensas das forças em disputa no cenário público. O contexto foi propício para o enriquecimento do discurso político, tanto o verbal como o visual, e a imagem do gorila foi cons-truída em meio às batalhas discursivas do período. O propósito do artigo é mostrar o papel ocupado por essa figura no imaginário construído pelas esquerdas em ação no início dos anos de 1960, que seria mobilizada para atacar os inimigos à direita, principalmente os militares, dando origem a uma representação caricatural que continuaria em uso durante a ditadura.

ABSTRACT

The article analyses the origins of the caricature of the gorilla, a product of the political debate of the early 1960's, and how it was used during the crisis that led to the coup d'etat in 1964. The radicalization of that period offered opportunities to enrich the political discourse, both verbally and visually, and the gorilla figure was pro-duced during the political battles of the context. The objective of the article is to show the role played by the gorilla in the imaginary built by the left-wing groups in action at the time. The caricature of the gorilla was used as a mockery attack against the right-wing forces in general, parti-cularly against the militaries, and would also be used under the dictatorship for the same purposes.
