Abstract

This paper analyzes whether the Historic Center of Diamantina, MG, listed by IPHAN and recognized by UNESCO as a Cultural Heritage Site, guarantees due access to the culture preserved there, by the older people, when they have a disability or reduced mobility. It applies the observational method, and performs bibliographic and documentary research. By outlining the accessibility of the Historic Center and the applicable legislation, it concludes that there is a lack of accessible options for older tourists, who could be potential tourists. Still, it is possible to combine the protection of heritage with greater access to  preserved culture, as long as the characterization of the site is preserved.
