Formal employment dynamics in the southeastern region of Mato Grosso: A sectoral analysis based on the shift-share model

Abstract

This study aims to verify changes in formal employment dynamics about the manufacturing industry in the southeastern region of Mato Grosso. The shift-share method to years 2006, 2010, 2015 and, 2018 was used. The results show important sectorial differences, such as the specialized competitive advantages in the Machinery and Equipment, Chemical Industry and the expansion of the Coke Industry in the mesoregion, that is, the diversification of the industrial firms over the years. However, the data show that the Food Industry, an important activity for job creation, reduce competitiveness in the mesoregion compared to the State of Mato Grosso as a whole.
