Abstract

This study examines the impact of rural credit on soybean production in the Brazilian Midwest. The analyzes were developed based on information from municipal agricultural production and the volume of rural credit destined for costing and investment activities, in the years 2009 and 2017, for the 467 municipalities in the Midwest region. The location quotient was used to verify the relative concentration level of the rural credit market and soy production. The regional and rural credit effects on soybean production were estimated using econometric regression. The results show that the granting of credit has positive effects and results in the production of soybeans, being the higher result for costing compared to investment. In this scenario, the rural credit policy stabilized as an essential instrument of governmental stimulus to the sector.
