Dieta do peixe-cachorro Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro Menezes, 1992 (Characidae: Acestrorhynchinae) do Pantanal de Poconé, Mato Grosso, Brasil

Abstract

Este estudo teve como objetivo averiguar a alimentação do peixe-cachorro Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro na Baía do Coqueiro, Pantanal de Poconé (16°15'12��?S e 56°22'12��?W). Foram coletados 69 exemplares de A. pantaneiro, e o conteúdo estomacal foi analisado pelos métodos de Freqüência de Ocorrência, Análise de �?ndice Volumétrico, �?ndice de Importância Alimentar e o método de Pontos. De todos os A. pantaneiro coletados, 49 (71%) estavam com o estômago vazio e apenas 20 (29%) continham itens alimentares distribuídos e categorizados em: A. pantaneiro, peixe 1, peixe 2, peixe 3, tuvira, Pyrrhulina sp., lambari e camarão. Observou-se que quão maior é o peixe-cachorro, maior também é o tamanho dos itens alimentares (r= 0,486; P= 0,001). O mesmo é observado relacionando o peso do peixe-cachorro e o tamanho dos itens alimentares (r= 0,509; P< 0,001), entre a largura da boca do peixe-cachorro e o tamanho do item (r= 0,485; P= 0,001) e entre o comprimento da boca e o tamanho do item (r= 0,512; P< 0,001). Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro mostrou-se piscívoro neste trabalho, corroborando com a literatura que reconhece a espécie como piscívora de águas pelágicas. Observou-se que A. pantaneiro também se alimenta de peixes da própria espécie, indicando o canibalismo.___ABSTRACT: Research involving information on the diet of fish, can provide data for the discussion of theoretical aspects, and attend to other purposes, as the basic knowledge of the biology of species through the understanding of trophic organization in an environment. Thus, this study was as objective investigate the feeding of the "dog fish" Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro in the Baia do Coqueiro, Pantanal de Poconé, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. Were collected 69 specimens of A. pantaneiro, and the stomach contents was examined by methods Frequency of occurrence, Analysis of Index Volumetric, Importance Index of Food and the Method of Points. Of all individuals collected, 49 (71%) were on an empty stomach and only 20 (29%) containing food items distributed and categorized into: A. pantaneiro, Characiformes 1, Characiformes 2, Characiformes 3, Characiformes 4, Gymnotiformes, Pyrrhulina australis and Crustacea (shrimp). It was observed that the size of the prey is directly related to the size of individuals analyzed (r = 0,486; P = 0,001). The same is observed relating the weight of each individuals and size of food items (r = 0,509; P <0,001), the width of the mouth and the size of the item (r = 0,485; P = 0,001) and the length of the mouth and the size of the item (r = 0,512; P <0,001). A. pantaneiro it is piscivorous, corroborating with literature what recognizes the species as piscivorous of pelagic waters.
