Abstract

From the beginnings of the cuplé to the festival song, what a Spanish singer sings and how he sings it is what has best defined the concept of Spanish song. Added to this are the spaces where this song has been performed, which have maintained a kind of denomination of origin for the Spanish song that will be altered in the middle of the 20th century by the emergence of new cosmopolitan spaces within youth culture and the song festivals. This text examines how the cosmopolitanism of the 1960s may have influenced the identity of Spanish song, which, stripped of its original contexts of enunciation, had to share spaces with songs of diverse origins and become light music.
