The purpose of this article is to investigate how nature is configured as an inhospitable and indifferent space to human existence in the short story A la deriva, by Horacio Quiroga, expressing what the Franco-Algerian philosopher, Alberto Camus, called existential absurdity. According to Camus, the absurdity of existence arises from the simultaneous coexistence of human consciousness in the face of a world to which it tries to order. The individual's relentless and relentless search for an existential sense causes a fracture that we recognize as the absurd. It is the impotence that we have to think with our concepts and with our words the events of the world outside our consciences. Thus, we intend to present how Camus's philosophy translates into Quiroga's nature through the analysis of the natural space in the author's work in the light of the concept of top-analysis brought by Gaston Bachelard.
