This article aims to reflect on the main interpretative postulates presented by the sciences of religion before the categories: sacred and secular, which begin with the institutionalization of the discipline from modernity/coloniality. And, as a critical counterpart, it is important to trigger theoretical and methodological contributions of the decolonial/intercultural paradigm. Thus, in view of the recognition of the process of coloniality of the sacred within religions and outside them, new epistemic arrangements are used to give an innovative, critical, and creative treatment to the religious phenomenon. For this, a literature review was carried out.
