this research aims to analyze the Public Prosecutor’s Office role in the police violence context, focusing on the city of Rio de Janeiro, through the study of the Favela Nova Brasília sentence judged by the Inter American Court of Human Rights in compliance with the conventionality control. Therefore, it is taken into consideration the role of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in external control of police activity and its contribution and perpetuation in police violence as a structural problem in brazilian society. In this scenario, this essay carry out this study through analysis about the conventionality control, which performs the function of checking the compatibility of domestic law – as its enforcement – in accordance with international law, especially human rights law. Therefore, the Favela Nova Brasília sentence will be analyzed through the conventionality control in order to comprehend the Public Prosecutor’s Office role in police violence in Rio de Janeiro. Hence, it will be possible to identify if international human rights law has been applied by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the case and, after the jugdment, if all measures determined by the Court was executed.
