The development of technology and the internet has sparked a technological revolution, shortening distances, increasing communication and disseminating knowledge. Nor can we deny the facilities that these advances have brought to a globalized world, such as the possibility of instant communications, among other advantages. This article aims to analyze how Fakes News can be/are a new instrument of democratic rupture in Latin America. To this end, it is hypothesized that Fakes News is a new form of threat to democracy, to the extent that they promote disinformation among the population, influencing the full exercise of political rights and the holding of free and fair elections. It also discusses the possibility of applying the OAS Democratic Charter as an instrument of response to new forms of democratic erosion. The research methodology is based on the hypothetico-deductive method.
