Abstract

Among the many changes that occurred in the field of international trade was the revival on the study of lex mercatoria due to the demands generated so that there would be the institute's consolidation. A lex mercatoria is the law created according to the customs of the international trade designed to discipline trade relations the way they actually work. The discussion on the existence and identity of the lex mercatoria is not free from questions about their viability and consistency. Thus, there are many theories and definitions that try to explain its reach. The purpose of this paper is to explain the concept, extension and theories about the existence and viability of lex mercatoria. The method used for this research was literature review of current and traditional texts on the issue.
