Resumo

The aim of this study was adherence of personal protective equipment by the nursing staff in a hospital emergency ward. As regards methodology, this study is an exploratory and descriptive, with quantitative approach and the type of field research, conducted with 101 nursing staff of the Emergency Unit of a municipal hospital located in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro . The results shown indicate that the nursing professionals 94% use gloves for procedures, 85.1% wore masks, 64.3% joined the cloak, the glasses are used by 31.6% and 20.7% of staff use cap. Thus, it is important to emphasize the importance of continuing education programs for guidance and conducts training in order to raise awareness of the importance of these workers use of personal protection equipments in their daily work for their protection and health.
