The present paper aims to demonstrate the importance of popular participation in the elaboration and decision of Brazilian environmental policies. For that, an analysis of participatory democracy in the Brazilian State and the constitutional predictions about the environment as a fundamental and generational right were carried out, using the method of deductive approach, since existing bibliographic
studies on the subject were used, deepening the knowledge, allowing us to observe that participatory democracy is an inseparable element in the defense of the ecologically balanced environment, being an effective instrument in the achievement of socio-environmental implementation, which ensures the achievement of environmental sustainability, reaching the highest goal of a substantial healthy quality of life for all.
