SAÚDE E EVENGELIZAÇÃO NA ÁFRICA COLONIAL: TRAJETÓRIAS DAS AÇÕES MISSIONÁRIAS CATÓLICAS NO SUDÃO (1864-1914)

Resumo

Neste artigo, centraremos na análise dos relatos dos religiosos e religiosas católicos que começaram o trabalho missionário no Sudão no final dos anos de 1950 do século XIX e, como os desafios locais de controle dos corpos das populações e dos territórios levaram os próprios missionários a desenvolverem uma particular forma de lidar com o próprio corpo, com a dieta alimentar e com o papel dos hospitais e da intervenção médica, dentro da perspectiva mais ampla do colonialismo britânico que se estabeleceu no Sudão, a partir da vitória contra os mahdistas, em 1898. Além disso, se num primeiro momento, as doenças locais atingiam os missionários e os mesmos se viam rendidos e frágeis, num segundo momento, a partir dos anos de 1980 do século XIX, os religiosos apontarão que a doença está no corpo social, e o sinal evidente da mesma era a continuidade da escravidão, considerada a "endemia moral" do continente. ABSTRACT: In this article, I will focus the discussion on the analysis of the reports made by catholic religious men and women who began the missionary work in Soudan by the end of the 50s of 56 the XIX century, and how the local challenge of body control of the population and of the territories led the missionaries to develop a very peculiar form of dealing with their own bodies, with their diet and with the role of hospital and of medical intervention, this within the framework of a broader perspective of the British colonialism it established itself in Soudan since the victory against the mahdists, in 1898. Besides, if on a first moment, the local diseases attacked the missionaries and then they would see themselves surrendered and fragile, on a second moment, from the 80s of the XIX century, the religious people would point that the disease is in fact located at the social body, and the evident signal of it was the continuity of slavery, considered as "a moral endemy" of the continent.
