O que é teoria da história? Três significados possíveis

Neste texto organizo três significados distintos da expressão teoria da história, conceituando-os com a exemplificação sucinta das teorias de três autores. O primeiro significado diz respeito à teoria da história enquanto teoria do conhecimento produzido pelos historiadores; demonstrei com as considerações de Hayden White, Michel de Certeau e Jörn Rüsen. O segundo refere-se ao que mais comumente é conhecido por filosofia da história; exemplifiquei com as proposições de Marquês de Condorcet, Friedrich Hegel e Karl Marx. O terceiro significado é relativo ao que denominei de teorias pontuais da história; nesse caso, ilustrei com as ideias de Carlo Ginzburg, Reinhart Koselleck e Michel Foucault.

ABSTRACT: In this paper I organize different meanings of the term theory of history in three ways conceptualizing them with brief examples of the theories of three authors. The first meaning concerns he theory of history as a theory of knowledge generated by the historians, I demonstrated how the considerations of Hayden White, Michel de Certeau and Jörn Rüsen. The second refers to the so-called philosophies of history, I exemplify with the proposals of the Marquis of Condorcet, Friedrich Hegel and Karl Marx. The third meaning is relative to what I have called specific theories of history, I illustrated with the ideas of Carlo Ginzburg, Reinhart Koselleck and Michel Foucault. KEYWORDS: Theory of history.
