Jardim e cultura

Resumo

Se por um lado o termo cultura está relacionado a uma produção intelectual ou artística, por outro lado, relaciona-se ao modo de vida de uma sociedade, possuindo ainda, em sua origem, o sentido de cultivar. Neste artigo, pretende-se contrapor os jardins cultivados aos jardins artísticos, revelando-se o valor cultural de ambos. Inicialmente, são apresentados os diversos significados do termo cultura, estabelecendo-se relações entre estes significados e o jardim brasileiro. Em seguida, trata-se dos jardins cultivados, sendo apresentados cinco estudos de caso de áreas ajardinadas implantadas na cidade de São Paulo. À análise dos jardins cultivados, segue-se uma discussão sobre os jardins artísticos em contraposição àqueles cultivados pelos próprios moradores. Na parte final do texto, enfatiza-se a ideia do valor cultural do jardim.

ABSTRACT: On the one hand, the term culture is related to an intellectual or artistic production; on the other hand, it deals with a society way of life. In its origin it had also the meaning of cultivation. This article aims to present a comparison between cultivated and artistic gardens, revealing their cultural value. Firstly, we present several meanings of the term culture, and establish the relationship between these meanings and the Brazilian garden. Secondly, we deal with cultivated gardens, and present five case studies of garden areas situated in the city of São Paulo. After this analysis, there is a discussion on artistic gardens in comparison with cultivated gardens. Finally, the idea of the cultural value of the garden is emphasized.
