Práticas culturais: as tipografias, os jornais e as livrarias de Uberlândia (1897 - 1950)

Resumo

Pretendemos neste artigo expor algumas informações e reflexões sobre pesquisa em andamento que objetiva localizar, mapear e compreender a criação de tipografias e jornais impressos na cidade de Uberabinha, posteriormente Uberlândia, no período de 1897 a 1950. Interessa-nos particularmente saber se a imprensa escrita, desde seus primórdios em final do século passado, conseguiu, apesar das exigências conjunturais de ordem política, econômica, social e cultural, redefinir seu papel e cumprir a função de formar e informar cidadãos.

ABSTRACT: This article intends to expose some information and reflections from an in-progress research which aims to locate, map and understand the creation of typesetting houses and newspapers printed in the city of Uberabinha, later Uberlândia, from 1897 to 1950. Its main interest is to know if the press, since its beginning at the end of the nineteenth century, managed to redefine its role and to fulfill the function of educating and informing citizens on the face of political, economic, social and cultural demands.
