Os garimpos clandestinos de ouro em Minas: tradição e mudança

Resumo

Este artigo tem como objetivo fazer uma análise histórica da trajetória da atividade garimpeira no Brasil: a constituição de suas características organizativas fundamentais e a cristalização da peculiar estrutura das suas relações sociais de trabalho. Argumenta-se que a instabilidade do contexto institucional mais amplo da atividade garimpeira traz profundas implicações para sua estrutura organizacional, caracterizando-a como uma atividade do setor informal. Uma especial atenção é dada ás mudanças ocorridas a partir da década de 1980, marcada por um novo boom da atividade, simbolizado por Serra Pelada, o que acarreta modificações em sua estrutura por todo o País.

ABSTRACT

This objective of this article is to analyze the history and the path taken by artisanal gold mining activity in Brazil: the constitution of basic organizational characteristics and the crystallization of its own particular structure of social relations of work. It is argued that the instability of the wider institutional context in which gold mining takes place has profound implications for the organization structure adopted, leading to it being characterized as an informal sector activity. Special attention is given to the changes which began in the 1980s, which were marked by new boom in activity, symbolized by the Serra Pelada mine, this causes structural modifications throughout the country.
